ZANGIEF - MOVES COMBOS & STRATEGY
Zangief is a great all around character who has very few bad match ups and much like other top characters in the game, can be played defensively and offensively very well. Much like previous games, once he gets in close it can be very difficult to get some space and you should expect to take some damage. His Light Punch is one of his best normal moves becuase it leads to tick throws which is one of his main ways to deal damage. His Banishing Fist will absorb fireballs and helps him close in on his opponent, but on block or hit you can be thrown afterwards so be careful. Once your opponent is on the ground is when you can really start to inflict serious damage. Zangiefs first and most obvious option is to set up a Spinning Pile Driver. If your opponent catches on to this then you can just Lariat them out of the air if they try to jump away. His Lariat also allows him to avoid fireballs and is good to use when someone is trying to cross him up. You really cannot jump at Zangief becuase of his Lariat special. His Ultra is a souped up SPD so if you are good at landing throws you should get a lot of his Ultras on your opponent. Overall Zangief is a good character for people new to the game who want to deal out a lot of damage very quickly. In the hands of experinced players it can be a very scary match up no mattter who you are playing.
