The New Challenger: Fighting Game Development With Iron Galaxy Studios' Dave Lang

Japanese developer and publisher Capcom commissioned projects to be developed outside their main production studios. Chicago-based group Iron Galaxy Studios became part of the plan and would later serve something more: they were going to work on Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition.

"Street Fighter is actually a Capcom U.S. owned franchise I believe, so when they decided to do that game the U.S. team got to pick who would be working on it," said Iron Galaxy CEO Dave Lang. "[Iron Galaxy] had a great relationship with Capcom, and they were confident our technical proficiency would be most valuable on that project."

This effort by Lang and Iron Galaxy would establish their ground as one of the prominent developers within the worldwide fighting game industry and community.

Skullgirls Hits Japanese Arcades Via Way of Taito's NESiCA

In case you haven't already heard something truly amazing has happened for the folks at Lab Zero Games as their amazing game Skullgirls is now going to be available for Japanese arcade players via Taito's NESiCA platform. This is truly amazing as they are probably the first and only American made Fighting Game to be widely available in Japan on the NESiCA. This is confirmed by the official @Skullgirls twitter and by Lab Zero Games CEO Peter Bartholow showing his excitement on NeoGAF.

Skullgirls Beta Changes from Salty Cupcakes 5/23/13

So as you may know I'm a huge Skullgirls fan and I'm always chomping a the bit for the latest information, so it would be safe to assume I'm tuning into to Salty Cupcakes, which happens every Thursday starting at 8PM PST on http://twitch.tv/eightysixed so in order to keep you guys updated I'm going to try and update or link to as much information as I've heard of on the front page so definitely check out the stream and here for a list of the latest changes. Keep in mind these are beta changes and are subject to change before the next patch comes out.

General Changes
- The input for taunts are going to be difficult inputs from other games
  - Ex. Peacock's taunt is the same input as Hsien-ko's Tenraiha (LK,HK,MP,MP,Up)
  - Not going to have incredibly difficult inputs such as pretzel motion for a taunt
- Changed HUD scaling to screen scaling to allow the resizing of the screen to not have any cut off

Southtown Arcade "The Exiles" Tournament Dated For June 15, Stream By IPLAYWINNER

While closed down, the folks of Southtown Arcade will be doing a special tournament event at San Francisco this June!

"The Exiles" will feature Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Injustice: Gods Among Us, The King of Fighters XIII, Capcom vs. SNK 2, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Ver. 2012, Street Fighter X Tekken and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom. All will be at San Francisco's goforaloop Studios on June 15, 2013 starting at 12:30 so come early!

Aside from CVS2, the whole tournament will be on Xbox 360 consoles so bring either your 360 or multi-console sticks!

Super Turbo: X-Mania XIV 3vs3 Team Tournament At Takadanobaba Mikado Game Center

The annual Japanese team tournament dedicated to Super Street Fighter II Turbo has now been announced!

X-Mania is now at its 15th entry and will be at Takadanobaba Mikado game center at Tokyo, Japan, one of the current major spots for Super Turbo. You can expect the nation's top players to come and fight!

X-Mania XIV will be happening on August 25, 2013! Stay tuned for more info!

Darkstalkers: North American Tournament Event "Death & Rebirth" Dated This June

Cincinnati, Ohio will be ground zero for North America's significant Darkstalkers tournament this June.

Darkstalkers: Death and Rebirth is a weekend long event dedicated to the series. Saturday will feature special tournaments including a single match and elimination tournament and an Super Street Fighter II Turbo ST Games qualifier. Sunday is all about the double elimination tournaments for Night Warriors and Darkstalkers 3! There are also some exhibitions and side game tournaments as well!

DOA5: Series' Ein And Virtua Fighter's Jacky Added In Ultimate Cast

Two more character are added to the upcoming Dead or Alive 5: Ultimate including one that's "faster than lightning."

Series regular Hayate was originally introduced as Ein in Dead or Alive 2. Ein utilizes a similar karate style like Hitomi. Virtua Fighter character Jacky Bryant will be included in Ultimate so expect some familiar moves from his Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown moveset such as his lightning kicks appearing.

MK: PC Release Of Komplete Edition This July, Handled By High Voltage Software

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment confirmed the existence of Mortal Kombat on PC and will be releasing soon with all existing content available!

Developed by High Voltage Software, known for The Conduit and Hunter: The Reckoning series, the PC port of Mortal Kombat will be based on the Komplete Edition. This package will feature all downloadable content costumes and characters Skarlet, Kenshi, Rain and Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy Krueger. The PC edition will also support the Tournament Editon Fight Stick by PDP and "full controller capability." Achievements and leaderboards will also be featured.'

The downloadable version of MK will be available on July 3 while physical versions will be available on August 6!

Phantom Breaker: New Version "Extra" Announced For Both PlayStation 3 And Xbox 360

The fighting game series by Japanese company 5pb, Phantom Breaker, will soon be releasing under a new imprint on consoles.

Titled Phantom Breaker: Extra, this entry will be available on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It was originally released on the 360 and later in Japanese arcades as "Another Code." There are currently no other details such as additional content or balance changes provided at the moment.

The latest update to Injustice: God Among Us is live today, and along with Batgirl and two costume packs (The Killing Joke and Red Sun) there are plenty of gameplay tweaks that will affect the way each character plays.

Some of those changes include nerfs to Deathstroke as well as attempts to make Bane and Sinestro more tournament-viable characters.

Why Me Dojo? 4th Quarter This Monday 5/20

Josh from Why Me Dojo? is hosting its 4th tournament at 133 Copland Street in Petaluma California this monday. This months featured games are Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition 2012 and Ultimate Marvel vs capcom 3

This Time the tournament will be held on XBOX 360 instead of PS3.

Entry for the tournament will be from 7pm-8pm. Each game cost $4 to enter and it is only $1 to register.

There is a great taco truck down the street and plenty of other places to each around the area.

Arc System Works announces Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-

Arc System Works has announced a brand new entry in its Guilty Gear franchise as part of its Arc Fes celebration. Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- is a completely redesigned version of the game, with 3-D models replacing the former sprite work of the game with the whole product running on the Unreal Engine.

According to Shoryuken, GGXrd runs on SEGA’s RINGEDGE2 / ALL.Net P-ras MULTI Ver.2 system but little other information is available at this time. Hit the jump for the first trailer of the game, which reveals returning characters Sol Badguy, Ky Kiske, Millia Rage and Zato-1/Eddie.

Arc System Works Festival Coming This Weekend

Fans of Arc System Works games such as BlazBlue, Persona 4 Arena and Guilty Gear will want to keep their eyes fixed on the computer monitor this weekend as ASW throws its yearly Arc Revolution Cup, a Super Battle Opera-styled tournament for each of the company's three main titles.
