More Evidence for Mortal Kombat HD Arcade Kollection Surfaces

More evidence has surfaced about an upcoming Mortal Kombat HD Arcade Kollection.  Major UK retailer Game has the game listed for pre-order. It offers a release date of September 2010 but no further information.

TRMK also reports that Ingram Entertainment, a retail distributor, has the game listed for pre-booking. Pre-booking is what a store does to place advanced orders for customers.  TRMK provided this screenshot from the system:

A release date of November 17th was in this system, and there is no indication thus far of a version for the Xbox 360.  TRMK poses two likely scenarios. It could be part of Sony's Playstation 3 HD Collection series of titles (God of War HD Collection and upcoming Sly Cooper HD Collection), or it could be some sort of timed exclusive.  If it isn't tied to the former, 100% exclusivity is unlikely.

Dead or Alive for Nintendo 3DS Officially Named

An article on Dead or Alive for the Nintendo 3DS handheld was publised in Japanese weekly gaming magazine Famitsu.  The game will be called Dead or Alive: Dimensions.  Considering that the game will certainly utilize the 3D capabilities of the handheld, it is a good title.

A scans of the Famitsu article (shown above) give a small, slightly blurry early glimpse at the game. We will share new information as it comes in.

Thanks to IMNEXTONLINE.COM for the tip! Thanks to Nite for lead on far better scans!

Capcom's Seth Killian Talks about Current and Future Street Fighter Projects

Capcom's Seth Killian talks about the company's current and future Street Fighter projects in an interview by Hadoken.net. Check out the rest by following the source link. Here's a sample:

If you can go back in time what would you have done different for SSF4?

There are a few relatively small features I’d like to see, but I’m working right now to get them into some upcoming products, so I don’t want to spill the beans on those yet. Apart from that, I was pleased with the way it turned out. I sometimes miss Championship Mode, the menus aren’t optimal for tournaments, and more characters always seem like fun, but overall I thought it turned out great."

Balance wise, SSF4 is without a doubt the most balanced Sf game to date, how was this achieved?

To screw up an old phrase, it was probably 20% inspiration, and 80% perspiration. The QA team is a really strong group, and helped to bring a lot of issues to the surface so they could be fixed. Balancing can sometimes feel like it’s never really done, but overall I think SSFIV accomplished the goals of maintaining character personality, having a great diversity of fighting styles, and trying to make sure there were no hopeless matches.

Now that the game has been well received, will capcom support it with DLC post tournament mode dlc?

Ono-san has already mentioned some of the new costumes in the works (a lot of them are really incredible by the way—I love the new Cammy, Adon is unbelievable, and another character gets a similar kind of treatment as “Mecha Zangief”!), so we definitely haven’t forgotten about Super SFIV. Beyond that, we’ll have to wait and see.

SEGA Registers Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown Trademark for Consoles

It appears that Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown could be coming to consoles sooner than we think! According to this post on the SRK forums, SEGA recently registered the "FINAL SHOWDOWN" trademark for consoles. This information was pulled from a Japanese gaming site called Game Nyarth. With Tokyo Game Show fast approaching and Super Battle Opera also being held at TGS this year, perhaps we will hear an official statement from SEGA. Let's hope for the best -- it's been far too long since I've played some VF!

Frame Data FAQ Video

Spotted over at SDTEKKEN.com, a new video by Noodlls explaining how frame data works. The video is of course for Tekken 6, but the over all principles apply to most fighting games out there. The visuals and text is pretty straight forward, so if you're unclear on why certain attacks can be punished on block -- or even on hit -- this is definitely worth checking out.

iPlayWinner INTERVIEW: Tatsu

Tatsu is arguably the best Vega player in North America. At EVO 2010 he placed 17th out of thousands of players in Super Street Fighter 4. In this interview we learn more about his gaming background, his views on Super Street Fighter 4 and Vega, on his experience at EVO, and more. Enjoy.

IPW: When did you first start playing fighting games and what did you play?

If Smash Bros. doesn't count as a fighting game, then it'd have to be summer of 2008. I played a lot of ST on GGPO. Those were good times:
If Smash Bros. does count as a fighting game, then... well, I guess I played Smash! Melee to be specific. This was probably around 2005-2006.

IPW: No, Smash doesn’t count. Just kidding. So you have only started playing fighting games relatively recently. What drew you to GGPO Super Turbo? Was this game the springboard to your playing any other fighting games before Street Fighter 4?

Yeah. I'm one of the many players who were inspired to play fighting games after watching the Daigo VS JWong comeback video from Evo 2004. At first I tried to get into 3S, but it was too overwhelming so I went over to ST instead. It was just my kind of game. And just between you and me, I'm really good at ST...

(By that I mean that I picked Vega, mashed cr.mp, abused walldive crossups, and won every single match. I thought I was hot shit)

PAX: New Marvel vs Capcom 3 Preview from Thunderbolt

Thunderbolt put together a short preview for Marvel vs Capcom 3, giving us their thoughts on the game thus far. Though their impressions are very positive, I know some of their comments might concern long time Marvel vs Capcom 2 fans. That said, this is a preview from more or less a casual point of view so keep that in mind.

Thanks to Keits over at SRK for pointing this out. Here is a small bit from the preview, read the rest here!

So into the battle we went – and into a decidedly familiar, yet totally fresh fighting game experience. The first thing worth noting about MvC3’s gameplay is that it feels a little more tactical than what was offered in Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Characters are larger on screen and command inputs seem even more forgiving. The game appears to be staying true to Capcom’s recent shift from a focus on command input skill and consistency to Street Fighter IV’s focus on timing and strategy.
