Wired Game|Life's Daniel Feit has translated some quotes from Japanese blog 4Gamer.
4Gamer recently covered an event on "Thinking About the Future of Entertainment" in Tokyo and were able to gather some interesting stories from two former Sony Computer Entertainment employees on how Sega saved the Playstation from becoming a 2-D console and possibly a failure.
How do you think the fighting game genre would've turned out had 2-D graphics stayed mainstream?

“If it wasn’t for Virtua Fighter, the PlayStation probably would have had a completely different hardware concept,” said former Sony Computer Entertainment producer Ryoji Akagawa.
“What if we make the PlayStation using 2-D hardware? Such an idea was seriously considered,” Akugawa said
