« SBO 2012 Dates & Location Announced, UMVC3 & SC5 Format Update »

Today, Super Battle Opera AKA Tougeki announced some big news regarding this year's event. First of all, the dates will be Saturday, August 4th and Sunday, August 5th, 2012 and it will be held somewhere in Narita City, Chiba. This means that the venue (not yet disclosed) will be located very close to Narita airport, making it convenient to International travelers visiting for the weekend.

More importantly, was updated today with a brief note about the format of UMVC3 and Soul Calibur 5. There has been a lack of news about how qualifiers would work for these games since they cannot hold qualifiers at arcades like they can with the other titles. Tougeki had this to say in response:

"This is in regards to the two console titles which will not have qualifiers held at arcades; Soul Calibur 5 and UMVC3.

Currently, for the two above-mentioned games that arcades have been confused about, our plan is to cooperate with player-run events to determine who will appear in the finals. We've already cooperated with a few console events to determine finalists, and from now through June and July we'll be working with more of these types of events.

Since this will only produce a small amount of finalists, we are thinking of having a large amount of spots given out on the Finals Day Last Chance Qualifiers. In the past, for example we've limited the entrants in Last Chance Qualifiers to 16 players and determined those players by lottery, making it very difficult to participate. However, for these two titles, we are planning on accomodating a much larger number of players who wish to participate. We're thinking of allowing 10 players to qualify to finals from Last Chance Qualifiers to make it easier for the players.

Last Chance Qualifiers will depend on the number of entrants on that day, but we are considering allowing over 32 players or perhaps even over 64 players to participate in the qualifier.

For now, we will be making continued announcements at various upcoming Qualifier Tournaments / events, so please look forward to more news!"

Below is the schedule and format of each game:
