Chaos Code, developed by FK Digital, recently had a location test in Japanese arcades.A new 2D arcade fighter has recently went on location test in Japanese arcades. It is called Chaos Code and it is developed by FK Digital, based out of Australia.
According to Andriasang, who got the information from 4Gamer (Japanese), videogames are not their primary business and this game is their first arcade title. 4Gamer got in contact with Michael and Mickey Lin, who are the directors of the game as well as being siblings.
According to Mickey, the selling point of the game is its personable characters and simple gameplay systems. They believe that because he game isn't too complicated or "new", beginner players will be able to enjoy the game.
Mickey went on to say that the staff has taken influence from The King of Fighters and Capcom vs SNK for the art style of the game. Development of the game started in Australia, but it is currently being done in FK Digital's Taiwanese studio. According to Michael, they are being helped with technology and marketing by a Japanese company that they would not name.
When asked about a console or PC release, Michael said that the game was originally planned as an online PC game and for two years was developed to that end. They moved away from that original plan because they thought they would encounter difficulty in doing paid downloadable content items for a 2D fighting game. Im sure they are watching BlazBlue: Continuum Shift's forey into that area with interest.
The game is currently 80% complete. The game's arcade release date will depend on the results of the location test, but Mickey stated that if the game didn't release by the end of this year that they'd have it out by next Spring.
You can read about the game in English at the official site.

RexxxSoprano has some Chaos Code Vids posted on his You Tube Channel. Game looks interesting, kinda reminds me of what might happen if you crossed GG/BB with MB.

Looks interesting...they have video clips of the game in action under the character tab. Vein looks fun.
Anyone else think it's a little odd they were planning on making it a pc game for two years, didn't think they'd make enough money off of it, so they went for an arcade release instead? Is there really more money there, even in Japan? I don't know. I'm thinking maybe they're doing an arcade release in Japan first to gain some name recognition and relevance. Then shoot for a bigger market.
But whatever, it's cool some devs besides the usual suspects are out there doing this.
Nice to see a new franchise entering the arena, hopefully it does enough original stuff to make a name for itself. Now im just waiting for a new 3d fighter.
The Chef is the only good character. Pass.
It disgusting that they originate in Australia, but avoid any opinion within Australia (even employees). Anyway the game is looking ok, but there should be some Sydney location test due that the company is there.
Anything that is less complicated then BB and a 2D-Fighter already got my interest.
@Robbes,
I agree. I work full-time and have a wife and responsibilities and don't have the time to learn something as complicated as BlazBlue, although I play from time to time for fun. I like it when games are more simple. If they can make the "simple to learn, hard to master" motto stick during the game design, that's aces in my book. That's why I like Super SF4.
Hey, FK Digital are the people who made Super Cosplay Wars, which was an awesome PC based free fighting game!!! Keep it up Fk Digital!
The character designs remind of the fighting game The Rumble Fish which dimps made a few years back. The system is definitely more like BB than KoF. It looks interesting though, I'd definitely give it a try.
This game looks like King of Fighters with BlazBlue combos. There's one character that looks like Makoto from BlazBlue. It's almost uncanny.
Anyway, since this is one of the only promising new-IP fighting games I see, I hope it becomes available to consoles and people like it. Nothing wrong with successful fighting games!!!
@Robbes
@Furiosrgd
..So what exactly makes this seem less complicated than blazblue? Just because they claim simplicity like every silly company in the past 5 years doesn't mean anything.
It seems to have decent character variety, normal GG-style mobility, gatlings, tech rolls, and even lets you choose 2 of 4 extra moves before battle.

Besides, the only remotely time consuming thing about these sorts of games is if you want to learn hard combos.(Assuming hard combos aren't the only ones available to a character) It's not like you have to take a course in the game. You just play, learn good uses for meter options, learn how to use your mobility, etc, etc...
@Bluelambency
You mean the tonfa chick? A bit, but her tonfas actually are tonfas, while makoto's weapons just look like them but are actually just semi-piledriver gauntlets. Makoto fights more like a boxer. Clothes are a bit similar I guess, but the tonfa chick is like 3 years old since this game has had a strange development process.
Though, ASW is working with them on this game actually, so maybe there is a connection.
Looks like a cross between ah/bb/mb more than kof and cvs2. It looks fun and smooth more characters will be added hopefully and maybe a full retail version for ps3&360 would be nice. Am I also the only one who feels like capcom should make 1 high resolution 2-D fighter?! Maybe snk vs capcom 3 will happen one day in 2-D. I love sfiv and the approach of mvc3 but some hand drawn graphics just one more time wouldn't hurt!
@Fersh
There's nothing here that tells me it's any simpler except for the words of the director. I was just speaking in general, that I personally like games with more simple to grasp mechanics to get you into the game quickly but have depth for those who want it.
Also:
"The Chef is the only good character. Pass."
Did you even watch any character footage on the site?
http://www.ccfkd.vgocities.net/Chaoscode/CC_char_02.htm
Character variety is good in this. Footage shows some exciting moves for everyone. Cthylla(last character) has some interesting thing where her staff/some other deployed things shoot projectiles or do spinning attacks. Reminds me of Dizzy/Mu/Yatterman-2.
@Furiousrgd
Right, I was just sayin' the director's words are nonsense, lol. You know, claim one thing for those who want something, while doing something else entirely for another audience. This is definitely a kof and BB/GG mix. Got a sort of MAX mode thing going on, as well as rolling.
Lol this game looks alright. I'm gonna call it "King of Melty Gear from now on though.
I sure am seeing some BLATANT character rip offs though.
The girl in the tag team walks exactly like Kula from KOF.
One of them has Athena's weird mermaid tail slap attack.
The weird mage chick has several attacks and a dash that look just like I-No from GG.
The robot maid from this game is just the robot maid from Melty and Nu/Lambda put together.
And that Cerberus Black guy is just Leona with projectiles.
I'll still check it out though. It does look more interesting the more i look at it.
One of the dudes looks like rock Howard
Looks pretty good ... I'd like to see more parallex in the backgrounds though ... Them seem a bit flat for this day and age ...
I wish them luck with this and the more the merrier ...
@Fersh Since when ASW working on this. If they have anything with the game it will be only for console port but even then no-one on gg/bb team will have nothing to do with the product. The game mechanics fellow closer to melty blood than gg/bb. They just need to clean up the animation and some new characters.
OMG!:)
Its now available in Japan's arcades. Also, they have recently made a Facebook page for it at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Chaos-Code-カオスコード/118782954883720.
