« First-ever EVO Japan Announced for September 11 and 12th »

Thousands entered but Daigo "The Beast" Umehara took home the win for Super Street Fighter 4. Photo courtesy of year's EVO had the biggest turnout in the tournament's history with "over 3,000 player signups".  Now the tournament will be expanding to Japan.

At EVO 2010 it was announced that the first-ever EVO Japan would take place on September 11 and 12th.  This puts it just before the Tokyo Game Show, Japan's biggest videogame expo, as well as Super Battle Opera (SBO).

Versus City states that the event will take place "somewhere in the Tokyo/Kawasaki area".  It will be put together by EVO staff as well as by staff from Godsgarden.

IPW is a huge supporter of Godsgarden (and EVO of course) so we are very excited about this event.  With more high profile events such as these, the competitive fighting game e-sport gets closer to the mainstream.

This just in - Adam Sessler confirmed for sole commentary:

"I had a great time at EVO 2010, many thanks to Seth Killigan for having me, and congratulations to Daigo Wong. Being at EVO really brought back memories of how much I loved Streetfighter back in the day, though, I have to be honest, my SubZero skills are a little rusty nowadays. I can't wait to be part of EVA Japan. Roll on December!"

Too good, can't wait. I wonder who all will fly in for it... probably won't have representation from 30 different countries, but I'm sure we'll see a good showing.

I missed the original announcement, so when people started talking about EVO Japan, I was like "is that what they're calling SBO now?"

Don't know why, but it bothers me just a little that the two events are so close together.
