From the Marvel vs Capcom Twitter:

The character art you see around teh interwebs is NOT key art. Those are in-game character models! SUPRISE!

Big thanks to Lexxxington for the tip!

I was thinking the same thing! Lol. They probably arent gonna be that dark in game, but it is good to point it out. Lol. Chris Red is more than half way covered in shadows. Other than that.. The in game models are looking amazing. =]

I'm really liking the artstyle for MvC3. I was hoping the in game models would be like in the trailer, and I'm happy to hear that those were the in game models. It has a very cool style.

I think the fact that they are that dark makes it more dynamic. It has that comic booky, film noir, style to it. But the in-game lighting is going to have an effect on the models so they shouldn't be dark in all stages. The work is looking great. It has it's own independent feel from SF4.

IDK. Im hopeful at best. This is a series that has garnered some of the most respect and praise in the industry and to think that they need to live up to that is quite daunting. I'm of course optimistic and will shell out praise for that great trailer. However, time will tell and on top of that...Capcom's insatiable thirst for superiority in the fighting game scene could come back to haunt them. dont skimp Capcom!!

I have to say i am a bit shocked by this. I love the artwork first of all but its going to turn some people off. Mark my words now there will be a whining post on a forum some were with 2k+ replys talking how this needs to go to a less stylish look. That it looks "cartoony" etc. This is a ballsy move by capcom and one i will praise for years to come.

These guys keep hitting it out of the freaking park, as a video game fan i have not been this happy with one publisher sense the heyday of square soft 95-2001ish back when almost every damn game they put out had so much polish to it.

Heck now that i think of it they are hitting valve levels to me as people who do very little wrong.

@Spiron I think the artwork is beautiful. Would they rather see the old sprites? Not that they we're bad but it's 2010. Hell, Morrigan never had a look until TvC. They have to take advantage of what the machines and 3D animation and rendering are capable of. I think it's fitting for them to be stylish and "cartoony" because we know these characters as being part of another universe and they are iconic. I think I'd be more turned off if they were hyper realistic. Fans of the game have waited a decade, why shouldn't they come back in style??

I think the game looks amazing and fits the VS style of games. However, major concerns are how the game is played - would it use the 6 button layout, the 4 button layout, or the 3 button layout. I am hearing too much talk about making it more accessible by limiting the controls to make it more accessible. I hope with what ever decision they made to make it more accessible they don't alienate the core audience since we're the ones that buy the games regardless.

@Akumous We've actually been talking about that in this article.

Yeah not sure what they really want, i think the internet just likes to yell. Heck i remember when Zelda the wind waker come out, people bitched about it. I loved it felt it was something new and fresh and fit a Zelda come. Heck i wish they would make a console Zelda like that again.

Come back with style and flare indeed man. Marvel is suppose to be flashy and over the top. If you ask me this fits the bill.

This is insane. I already loved the comic book art style, but the fact that these images are in game models just blows me away.

April 20, 2010 | Registered CommenterNEGRO JUSTICE

Wow that's awesome. I figured they would just reuse the TvC models all over again.

Ive been a huge fan of comics since i was a kid, so this is like a dream come true. The artwork looks very much like comic book style artwork, which is perfect for a game like this!

If you're worried about the shadows, everyone, don't be. The game will have a great lighting engine. MT Framework is the truth! The lighting will change depending on the stage, what's going on in the fight, etc just like SF4. It will look great.

April 20, 2010 | Registered CommenterFuriousRGD

Yeah MT Framework is a beast. I was surprised to see that's the engine the game is built on as it was typically used for their action games. Must be a very versatile engine. And we all know it's graphical capabilities...just look at DMC4, Lost Planet, and RE5.

Um. It might just be me, but that Ryu doesn't look anything like the Ryu they showed at the end of the trailer. I'm just saying.

April 21, 2010 | Registered CommenterOneTrueSonic

@OneTrueSonic; Nah, it's not just you. I'm just assuming the Shin Hadouken Ryu is using gives off light due it being concentrated energy and all, and the engine or whatever it is that handles all the lighting changed the lighting to fit that sudden burst of light. We didn't really see him outside of that Shin Hadouken.

Or at least I'm pretty sure that's what it's called. It's been too long since I've played a Marvel VS Capcom game. <_<

=] nice little interniew with the people from kotaku.

April 21, 2010 | Registered CommenterTheChain

@TheChain Thanks for that article. =) So with that said, I wonder who we will be seeing on Marvel's end?? I like the idea of Deadpool, he strikes me as someone that they could make a bit unorthodox in a fighting game. Maybe we'll even see Thor since his movie is in the works.
