Some information is coming out of the SNK Playmore King of Fighters XIII Preview event which is happening today at the Belle Salle Hall in Akihabara, Tokyo in Japan.
The image of the event hall is courtesy of the King of Diary Japanese blog. As you can see, Mai is a centerpiece of the decor (understatement).

Yuri and King have been confirmed at the press conference and there will be 6 new characters and one new team in total for this iteration of the game.

KOF12 had wounded my anticipation for KOF13 even this soon. I actually enjoyed the game but it didnt offer a lot.
Hmm, 6 new characters but one new team. I'm guessing three of those new characters might be bosses or just miscellaneous extra characters without any alliance. Looking badly forward to the new one, though. I love the KoF series as one of my top favorite fighter franchises (I'd sound blasphemous if I mentioned who it beat out in my mind), but 12 was such a disappointment in multiple ways. Good to see Yuri and King and by that I mean good to see King. She's always been pretty cool. Sadly if she's in it, then that probably means no Duck King since one of them usually watches the bar while the other fights. And as cool as King is, Duck King is the freaking man. Can't wait until I find out who all else is confirmed for this. Off the top of my head I'm especially crossing my fingers for Vanessa (dismally absent from 12), Robert (I doubt he wouldn't be in it), and Angel (a very hard to learn but fun to use character I haven't seen in a KoF in some time).

I'm actually hyped for this.
The confirmed playable characters are those that were scrapped from XII. From the looks of it, this is what XII was supposed to be like, with Mai, King, Yuri, Hwa Jai, Billy Kane, Vice, Classic Iori and Boss Ash being cut from the roster.
If it means Takuma is gonna be part of the AOF team, I'm gonna get this.
Then again, this is what XII was supposed to be without the cut roster. :/
I hope that once it gets ported to consoles, the netcode won't be horribad.
Would've been nice if they actually -added- characters, though. Like, I dunno, K'? Or Shingo? ;~;

Man I would love to see Vanessa in this game. She may be my favorite SNK character, and is easily tied with King for my favorite KoF chick (what, you were expecting Mai?). I kind of see her as SNKs Dudley...a boxer character that doesn't fall into any stereotypes. Love that character.
Also, it seems like they added some new systems. There's some kind of cancelling mechanism and I saw Kyo with soem flowy afterimage type stuff, not sure what that's about. Either way, anything will be an improvement over KoF XII though, so I'll keep my eye on this.
This is looking much better than the glorified beta test that was KoF XII. I am a little disappointed that I haven't seen character intros before the matches in any of the videos.
