Capcom Expresses Interest in Street Fighter 4 on Sony PSP

Street Fighter 4 on PSP? I'd buy! Image courtesy of Kotaku.

In the recent Japanese Super Street Fighter 4 Blog Post Q&A, Capcom's Natsuki Shiozawa had this response to Street Fighter 4 on PSP:

Q: SFIV on the PSP would be great.
A: I want that as well. Not just PSP, but I want to play SFIV on the go! A lot of people within Capcom feel the same! It would be nice if we had something like this...

I overlooked this when I first read that Q&A, because at the time I thought that the prospect of Street Fighter 4 being ported to any handheld was remote.  However, after the recent announcment of Street Fighter 4 for iPhone, I ask myself "why not Nintendo DS or PSP?".

We will have to wait and see if anything develops, but now that Street Fighter 4 is coming to iPhone it would not be a surprise to see it arriving on other portables in the future.

pls capcom make a psp port, fighting games need a lot of training and a psp ssf4 would help improve my skills a lot

again after playing alpha 3 and darkstalkers on the psp, it's a great idea but in the end it just hurts you, and you left really frustrated. now if they let you plug in a controller via the usb port, i would gladly eat my words. that would be sick, but that's a dream and that dpad really hurts as well if you don't like playing games on pad this will really make you cry.

I play Darkstalkers and Alpha 3 Max on PSP all the time. Sure it's not ideal but if you're sitting in a doctor's office it's still fun. Maybe I'm just used to it but I think those games play OK, so this one would too.

Might not be that hard to make either. They can just take stills of the 3d models in various poses and manipulate it to get the character animation, for instance. That's probably what they did for the iPhone ver.

I'd like to echo ze(r)otwoeight's thoughts... I'm a stick player, but I really don't have a problem playing on a decent pad (dual shock/six axis). That said, trying to do DP or even fireball motions on the PSP's d-pad is the most miserable experience I can imagine.

I bought Capcom Classics on PSP thinking that SF2 would be really fun to play, but I was ultimately left frustrated and disappointed due to the awful controls the PSP provides. They shouldn't waste their time.

I can't do ultras on a controller, so no way are they happening on my PSP. I would definitely buy a copy though because the game is super fun. I hope they add goofy extra characters like they did for SFA3 on PSP.

i think it would be a great idea. All i do is play fighting games. and sf4 on the psp would be a dream ,Like guys stated dark stalkers and sf alpha max were released by capcom they were perfect ports, not to mention guilty gear, tekken series and so many others including a game thats coming out in 2 weeks blazblue portable. i think its stupid that capcom choose the iphone over the psp, lets be honest iphone games suck, theyre short causal games with no depth at all..

This could work really well I think...

What I think would be amazing is if they made a joystick adapter so you could plug the joystick into the PSP and just use the PSP as a screen. True portable SF4!!

It's be kinda weird playing with a stick because the psp would be kinda far although the screen IS pretty dope but it might take a while to get use to it being so far away.

the psp was actually my first platform that I REALLY played a fighting game on so it'll be like going back home after a long vacation for me haha When I first read this it made me reach for my psp and pop Guilty Gear X2 in! I would for sure cop me one of these if it came out.

Speaking of the game being released it sounds like super will be out long before this installment drops so I'm curious as to if it'd be a port of SFIV or Super? Or something unique? an in between perhaps? I see no reason why they would get every one hyped over all these new characters (and damn are we hyped!!) and then in the next release not have them. Perhaps a psp exclusive character? =3
