« Montreal Canada's Expanding Fighting Game Community »
When Street Fighter 4 released, existing fighting game communities expanded and new ones sprung up where there currently was none. In Montreal, Canada, the tourney scene has grown tremendously over the last year due to the great fighting games released last year.
With Super Street Fighter 4 now looming large on the horizon, it will be yet another opportunity for our fighting game community to grow. New players will want to go to tournaments and some passionate people will work to create new scenes.
If you are not going to tournaments, this video can give you an idea of the kind of fun that you might be missing. Congrats to Montreal for their accomplishments.

GET HYPE !
Talk pas shit!
Didn't know there was a SF4 scene around here.
@Crankypunk
NP man! You know ipw is here to support the community, and its great to see successes like this one.
and toronto gets the shaft in recognition
Toron.. what?
Congrats MTL, shit looks mad hype.
@toocool,
to be honest, the last thing I've seen come out of Toronto was the TOSF 3s parry video.
@Haunts
I don't even know what that is but I do know there is also a scene in Toronto
@toocool

Back in the days of 3s Toronto was far more vocal about their scene is all im saying. You shouldn't hate on others but instead take steps to get your homies in the spotlight.
@Haunts
I'm not hating, I just find Montreal "The Capital of Canada" a bit broad.
Thats like saying NYC is the best place for competition in the SF4 scene. What about cali, or florida or even Virginia?
Ontario has a great scene as well as Alberta and British Columbia.
No offence, but one of the MTL guys went to Alberta for a few months and got 1st place in two big tourneys raking in over 700$ in winnings... and this guy placed last or close to last in the two most recent tournaments we had here.
so you have to be good in order to have a scene now?
@toocool,
I understand, but it's really the same deal -- Cali, NY, TX etc go out of their way to put their players out there while other regions may have good players but don't do as much to put them in the spotlight. We have guides on this site on how to record videos, create streams and stuff like that and Montreal is embracing that to help their players.
Tournament results speak for themselves of course, but if you're talking about the internet at large, most people just watch YouTube or the latest stream. It's just how it is these days.
For instance, before iPW started streaming NorCal events a lot of people figured we were just a bunch of scrubs and had no idea we had guys like Choi, Ricky and F. Champ. We have a great scene here with arcades and everything else, but there is a lot of work involved in regards to uploading videos, doing interviews, streams and whatever else. Someone just has to step up and take on this responsibility.
With SF4 you just have so many new players who have no idea about the history of these different regions and the players involved. It's up to the active members in these communities to give their players the exposure they deserve.
@TooCool
Never did it mention that there was not another scene in Canada, Toronto IS upping there scene, PWNZ is doing some great shit to get the name out there, we just happened to poach IPW first, and have multiple trailers/promo vids to expose ourselves.
With all that said, we ARE claiming to have the best quality players in Canada.. :) GTA has a lot more people than montreal does, so you guys should have a bigger scene. But we believe in quality not quantity.
@EVO we will showcase our talent and prove montreal is a force to be reckoned with.
Haunts, I believe Cranky gave you my email, we will be in touch!
@TooCool
You don't have to be good to have a scene... you have to be good for your scene to get exposed.
If anything, this video is good for you guys, It gives you the motivation to fight back and show that Toronto has good players too.
I don't get why people from TO have to complain about us doing this and not mentioning them, but hey.
Thanks for backing us up Haunts :)
And yeah, MTL has an incredibly large pool of VERY skilled players - if you check my Youtube channel, or some of the other members of the community, you can see we have some players who are incredibly good at SF. We just took matters into our own hands to promote our local scene, both to attract new players and to make ourselves known - we've had feedback from US players that they figure the SF scene in Canada is all TO. MTL is very little known to these guys and we feel we have people who are more than capable of repping Canada to the world.
As Haunts said, before IPW started streaming NorCal events, nobody knew about them. We're experimenting with streaming now (thanks for helping with Crankypunk, I'll be setting stuff up with him anyway!) and we want to make our scene known to the world. Besides, the TO guys are almost always skipping out on MTL tourneys. :)
Just a few more words...
This Is Just The Beginning....
Keep your eyes open on MTL we coming out BIG
Good shit MTL!
Thanks for watching folks! Big thanks to Woolie for the sick trailer.
Wow. Drama up in here. Anyways, I have a question for you Canadian folks unrelated to the current subject:
Do any of you know ACKS, or know anybody who knows him?
(Acks is a SF3: 3rd Strike player who used a red urien) All I know is that homeboy went to become some kind of Hong Kong TV star, and I was wondering if anyone could get me in touch with him. I actually would like to do an interview regarding him leaving the competitive scene to pursue a different opportunity.
If you have any kind of lead/information, can you please e-mail: crackfiend@iplaywinner.com
nice vids and montreal is getting hyper and hyper!!! OH YEAHHH!!
This makes me very happy. Props to ThirtyHitCheapz for taking the time to make this thing and iPW for helping us get the word out there. :)
Sick!!! This is so hype represent MTL!
Thanks ipw!
Yo CrackFiend the last time I saw him was in August he came out for the Canadian championship but if u want to get in touch with him go ask in Toronto thread on SRK I doubt anybody in Montreal knows him personally since he's not from here
Yup he was last seen at T10, Toronto's major. If you want to get in contact with him def post up in the Toronto thread in the Canada section. I can also ask around for you as well as I can get in touch with the old school 3S scene.
Yo Davero,
when you coming to MTL?
still using those seimitsu buttons I sold you?
@Smokey and Davero
Thanks a lot guys! If you have the time, please ask around for me, Davero. The fact that you guys are from the scene around there makes it very convenient. I feel very compelled to write about him after remembering how my sister and mom recognized him in some chinese movies. =]
I'll also hit up the thread as well!
I wish Ottawa had a tourney scene.
