    EVOLUTION 2010 TOURNAMENT GAMES ANNOUNCED

Shoryuken.com held a live podcast tonight detailing all the new games and events that will be at EVO2K10! Some of the choices are pretty obvious but others will surprise you.

    Super Street Fighter 4

The one game that pretty much everyone knew would show up at Evolution. With the game coming out in April, players will have about 3 months to practice up before the massive tournament.

This of course will be the largest game of EVO with 2000+ entrants expected to show up, so we will be sure to see plenty of hype matches and a ton of upsets.

    Tekken 6

Another no-brainer for EVO, this is one of the biggest games right now with a dedicated fan base. This is also the first year that the console version is not behind the arcade version so this should be one of the best tournaments of the event.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo: HD Remix

Another game with a very dedicated fan base returns to EVO. Last year the semi-finals for HD Remix were very exciting so I know this will make not only the players but many of the spectators very happy.

    Femme Fatale Tournament

A first for EVO, as far as I know, a females only Street Fighter 4 tournament! We are seeing more and more of these tournaments pop up these days with the influx of female players, but I am still surprised they made this a full fledged event for EVO. Will we see any Japanese female players come over such as Choco Blanka?

    BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

A choice that personally makes me scratch my head, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, and not the new Continuum Shift. Now we know Continuum Shift is not out yet and Mr. Wizard mentioned that the new game will not be out before EVO so there isn't much they can do in regard to having the new version available to play. That said, many Calamity Trigger plays have dropped the game completely at this point so I expect to see this game get very low numbers.

Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All Stars

CAPCOMS newest fighter makes the cut this year and I am glad to see that is the case. This game is a lot of fun and will open up the possibility of bringing in a whole new demographic of players to EVO. With the game just released yesterday, everyone has plenty of time to step up their game and become a land mine in the EVO pools for this game.

    Players Choice Game

Now this is something else I didn't expect - a Players Choice poll where the players will decide the last game at EVO! It's been years since they ran seven games at EVO, so this is a great opportunity for fans of games such as Street Fighter 3, Marvel and even Capcom vs SNK 2 to speak up and let the EVO staff that their game is not dead!

    3rd Strike ftw.

Woa.... kind of disappointed we won't see both Marvel and SF3. I won't be playing either, but the amount of hype that both bring, disappointing to see they wont be there. No offense to the ladies, but I kinda wish they would take out the Femme Fatale tourney just so both of these could be in.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for the players choice game!

    January 27, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDark_Rob

My thoughts are scrap the blazblue and Femme Fatale tournament and have a 2v2 Super SF tournament. :p

Who ever brought the martial champion cabinet in 2k9 can u please bring it again? I spent more time on that game than I did on T6.

    January 27, 2010 | Unregistered Commenternakatomi

is there an official announcement anywhere?

i would really like to think that this is still hearsay at this point, as running ct as an official tournament would be a disaster.

    January 27, 2010 | Registered Commenterquash

MrWizard announced it on a live SRK podcast tonight. I cant imagine BlazBlue really getting any attention if they are playing CT. My understanding is that no serious BB player even touches that game anymore.

Seriously? A women only tournament? That's fucking retarded!
It's not like women have any big disadvantages in videogames, so why not just have them join the regular SSFIV tourney?
    I call bs.

Also, player's choice NEEDS to be SF3:3s!

As much as I hate not seeing MvC2 on the lineup, it makes sense that Evolution TWO THOUSAND-F*CKIN-TEN would promote a new era/generation in fighting games.

As for the players choice, I'm voting Melty Blood if it makes the list. The scene has gone unrecognized for years despite drawing a large enough crowd to Sentinel-stomp some of the smaller EVO games (like SC4, GG). There is a community and it's just as hype as everyone else...

I vote for Shaq Fu for the people's choice game.

    @haunts

pretty much. everyone that's been able to has moved on to cs, myself included.

    @djcream

mbaa sentinel stomped necx. i heard sfiv players were mad!

    January 28, 2010 | Registered Commenterquash

    BOOOOOOOOOO!!! No SF3.

SF4 Females is going to be mighty boring....

    January 28, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterFermbiz

My concern about the women's only tournament is the heckling. Out of the 2000-3000 attendees there will be some bad apples in the crowd and you know many, many of the players there will be a little bit drunk so I would imagine it will be pretty rough up there for some of them.

    No SC4 love?

    January 28, 2010 | Unregistered Commenteranon

I agree with ditching the Femme Fatale tourney. It just makes female players seem like second-class citizens. Plus, I'm assuming they'll be able to join the regular SSF4 tourney anyway, so there's no real reason for it unless they think it will attract more female players. If someone thinks female players need to earn legitimacy, the best way to do so is by placing well in tourneys with everybody, not just those of the same sex.

And as a long-time SC player, SC4 is a crap game and there is no way in hell it's getting included. Marvel, 3S or CvS2 will trump it easily.

No KOF makes this EVO irrelevant ;)

    January 28, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterFersis

CVS2 is my personal players pick, although UMK3 would be quite hype. BB:CT is a very dumb choice.

    January 30, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLordofUltima

UMK3!!!! And please and take out CT for CS arcade, if you can't find a arcade cab then I am sure someone could probably bring theirs.
