      WEEKEND TOURNAMENT RESULTS

A couple major tournaments went down over the weekend, NEC and Absolute Battle. Gootecks also hosted the LA Riots invitational tournament this weekend featuring top talent from Los Angeles.

NEC which many of you probably saw thanks to Frame-Advantage.com's stream, is the East Coasts premiere fighting game tournament. It's been around just as long, if not longer than EVO! Surprise, surprise, Justin Wong takes Street Fighter 4 and also Third Strike singles. This could be his last tournament as an East Coast resident, in that according to his twitter (@jwonggg) it looks like his winnings will help him move to California sometime soon.

Flash Metroid had an impressive showing at NEC as well, placing second with C. Viper. Speaking of C. Viper, as far as I know Marn is taking a break from Street Fighter 4 singles tournaments (he played in the team tournament) until Super Street Fighter 4 rolls around. [ update: According to one of our readers, Marn did enter SF4 Singles and was eliminated by an E. Honda player. ] [ update 2: According to KenSK, Marn entered as SwordmanX and used "random characters" through out the tournament and went 2-2]

Absolute Battle was a large tournament held in Texas, showcasing some of their top talent, with El Fuerte and Top CVS2 player Buktooth taking it all in Street Fighter 4 and HD Remix. Maybe seeing Ricky Ortiz's three wins at NCR inspired him to do some damage of his own.

For everyone who has doubted Combofiend's switch to Abel should take note of his win at LA Riots. He took down SoCals top Boxer player Keno to seal the deal and take home the money. SoCals top El Fuerte player Kai took third.

Locally we had a "Best of NorCal" that was held at Milpitas Golfland. It was a 3v3 team tournament, which is odd to me considering when trying to find out who the best is at something, it should just be one person. I guess that's what NCR was for right? Regardless, Ricky Ortiz's team took it all in the end.

One thing I'll say is that as nerdy and lazy as it sounds, sitting at home and watching tournament streams is becoming one of my favorite things to do over the weekend. This weekend the stream that really stood out was the LA Riots stream by Coin-OP.tv. Over all great production values with multiple camera angles, footage of previous tournaments the players had attended and information about each player would be displayed on screen before they began each match. Watching it made me wish every tournament had a stuido type setting to broadcast from, but anyone who has attempted to stream from most normal tournament settings knows that is never the case.

      Full results after the jump.

Thanks for the results. I think Marn entered SF4 singles, but he was eliminated by an E. Honda player.

I also like watching steams for the live commentary, matches, and the interactive chat.

Is that right? I didnt see Marn play at all in singles and he posted he wasnt entering any tournaments until Super so I assumed he didnt enter.

      December 6, 2009 | Registered Commenterhaunts

Yeah, I didn't see him play either, but Eventhubs reported that he lost in singles and they also mentioned it on the stream.

      December 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMindOnAir

Ahhh... Thanks for the update. Real odd to not see him in top 3 these days.. :)

The FADC stream was geekin out on me here and there when I was watching (on my end, not theirs Im sure) so I must have missed them talking about his elimination.

I thought skye disappeared since EVO. That guy got mad salty and was telling my brother he lost to a scrub during winners. Turns out that scrub was me! His Honda is pretty sick tho.
