The new issue of Games TM has a feature on game developer Rare. The feature has a box out pertaining to its Killer Instinct franchise, inside which Mark Betteridge (head of Rare) reaffirms that Killer Instinct is "near and dear to us".
He goes on to say: "“It’s about timing, and it’s about the opportunity creatively and gameplay-wise that it would offer. Street Fighter IV looked great and they’ve done a great job, and I’m a big fan of those products, but with KI we want to do something different rather than go back into that arena.”
It doesn't stop there: “I think it’s about doing something different than with a conventional controller.” Rare Studios is owned by Microsoft, so anything Rare produces will support Microsoft and Xbox 360. Microsoft's upcoming flagship game control device "Natal" is anything but a conventional controller.
Natal is expected late next year, so expect many game announcements in the months ahead. After this, it's possible that a new Killer Instinct could be among them at long last.

ITS ABOUT TIME!!! I love me some Killer Instinct! Do it Rare! Only pleez put regular controls in there too
Dumbest most disappointing news in gaming history!!! Yeah. Fighting fans want to play a game where they are the controller. Please don't support this. It's retarded!
I wonder if KI will end up in the league of SF4, or in the league of something like KOFXII? We'll see in time I guess.
As much as I loved the KI games back in the day, I can't see myself supporting this. Partly because I think Natal in general is a stupid idea, especially for fighting games, part because I just know it won't live up to the previous two, and part because I don't have a 360 anyway.

history has a way of repeating itself.
man, I though I might be called out as a hater for thus, but it looks like most people agree... If they leave the arcade stick behind with this and try to do something different and experimental JUST because they can, thus wi be fail. I really don't think this because I'd get any joy out of rare failing, I loved the KI franchise, but... I just don't think fighting game fans want to mess around with imprecise, experimental controls to jump back into a game they were used to playing the same way as every other fighting game. It's the gameplay that these games thrive or die on, not the novelty of how they're controlled...
