« Selectable Ultras in Super Street Fighter 4? »
Rumors that Super Street Fighter 4 would have multiple Ultras per character have been circulating for a long time now. Capcom to date has not revealed exactly how this system would change in the sequel, if it does at all. Evidence seems to be mounting, however, that characters will have two Ultras, and that you would be able to select which one you want to use before the match. Super Arts in Street Fighter III worked this way.
In a recent Super Street Fighter 4 article, IGN had this to say:
"Super Street Fighter IV, then, has us more than a little sweaty palmed, the prospect of new challengers, a new Ultra system (which Capcom is being coy on, but we've played it and would point anyone who wants a point of reference towards Street Fighter III's Super Arts) and the return of the car-trashing bonus rounds making the game more than the measure of anything else on the horizon in 2010."
As further proof, let us compare Juri's Ultra meter in these two screenshots. The first one is a screenshot released earlier this year. Juri's Ultra meter clearly has a Roman Numeral I:
Now let's compare how that meter looks in a video with Seth Killian showing off Juri. Here's a screen grab from the video. Look at Juri's Ultra meter. It clearly has a Roman Numeral II.
What do you think?

Hell yes, this was my preference from the get-go.
Seriously, just having two Ultras alone will fill in a lot of the match-up gaps.
Here's hoping Chun-Li gets some kind of aa Ultra? Maybe? Pretty please?
There's too much evidence out there showing off the new Ultra System in SSFIV.
I just think that the whole community is just anxious to hear how right they are into thinking that there ARE multiple ultras to choose from before the match.
Could be true though in the video when he used the ultra it was the same one ive seen her do before. Unless they've been using her second one the whole time.
I always thought it was a little too obvious that they have the roman numerals, of course there's multiple ultras, 2 at max i'm thinking, we haven't seen any III's. I'm just hoping we don't have a 3s ken or chun situation where 1 ultra is an obvious choice over another in terms of utility & dmg.
I'm hoping the rumored selectable ultras will give Dhalsim something with some invincibility as escaping corners when low on health can be really difficult.
sounds right, but kind of disappointing. since the games mechanics lend themselves to such defensive gameplay, I was hoping for the multiple ultras to all be available at once. Not that it would *necessarily* change things, but if the ultras were varied enough it would definitely throw in more factors each player has to account for both offensively and defensively.
