Super Street Fighter IV

The official Japanese Super Street Fighter 4 Blog has been updated once again. This time there isn't a whole lot of information, but what's there is very, very exciting!

The first is the (partial) reveal of yet another stage to compliment the new India stage revealed yesterday. Like the India stage, it looks flat out awesome! (Edit: This looks like Metro City from Final Fight. See update on bottom of article for speculation)

The second piece of excitement is yet another announcement of an announcement. The image provided with the blog entry (see below for full sized version of the picture) is obviously cut in half and we can see a large-sweeping arc of a focus attack. Also, read the text below this pic in the blog entry below. Is there any doubt it's a new character reveal? With that wide arc of a focus attack, does anybody care to speculate on which character it will be? Is the "something really big" to announce possibly a clue? Let us know in the forums or in comments. We'd love to hear your guesses.

Hello everyone!
Tomorrow, 11/22 is our very own Dhalsim's birthday.
And also next week, 11/25 is Dan's birthday. Faaaaaather!
My birthday is 8/1!

At any rate, last week I didn't really talk about SSFIV, and I didn't realize it until I'd finished. As a result, I'll have something huge to talk about next week!!

It will also be printed in the Weekly Famitsu going on sale on 11/26, and we will also update the official site with a new promotional video! So I hope you get all worked up while waiting for it!

Also, regarding the "Pursue The Fighting Spirit" Street Fighter IV Nationals that I've been promoting in secret, I'd like to tell you the latest new about the qualifiers!

First, we will be releasing the dates and locations of the qualifiers on 12/4 (Friday)!!

Also, in addition to the regional qualifiers and dates, we are coming up with something called the "Dream Team"!!!

If there's a player whose fight you want to see, you'll be able to vote for them!! This is pretty groundbreaking for an official event! (applause)

You'll be able to vote through the official site for the arcade version of SFIV. One vote per person (even if you have multiple cards registered, only 1 vote per person).

The voting period will also be revealed with the other information about the qualifiers on 12/4.

Additionally, all players who receive at least one vote will receive the special title "Chances Are Fair"!!

So everyone, now's the time to start thinking about who you want to vote for!!

Your vote will be the key to everyone having a good time at the national tournament!

And lastly, the extremely popular "Street Fighter Artwork" book is going into second edition printing thanks to you!! (applause)

For those of you who don't have it yet, this is your chance to pick it up! You certainly won't regret it!!

It appears I may have been mistaken in thinking this was New York. Look at the statue behind Chun Li's head (blown up in the image on the left). It's a huge statue of what appears to be Mike Haggar from Final Fight.

Final Fight's Metro City (Mike Haggar is the Mayor of this fictitious city) has contained elements of New York or Chicago in its artwork.

So, could this indicate a new Final Fight character? Mike Haggar is less likely due to his similarity to Zangeif (and Zangeif already has a Haggar alternate costume), but Guy and Cody are possibilities.

Could this also be Rolento? Rolento's stage in Final Fight and in Street Fighter Alpha series has been a construction elevator along a high-rise building.

Here is a vid of Rolentos Street Fighter Alpha 2 stage. Round 1 is static background but in Round 2 the elevator moves up along the building and ends in a skyline view of what appears to be New York and Brooklyn.

It could also be Juri's focus but that would be kinda lame.

Just a possibility, I've lived through the hype surrounding SSBB and that hype was notorious for hyping things that have already been revealed.

I put my money on Cody though, since I don't think Guy would do some kind of wide arc focus like that.

I'll say Rolento because the stage looks similar to the Alpha 2 stage and I think you fought him in an elevator in Final Fight 2. My opinion is the wide stroke moving from top to bottom would be from an acrobatic character or a wide top to bottom swing, like someone who swings a BATON. I don't know just a guess. If the character didn't have anything to even do with the stage I'd say it was Adon, but the stage itself is definitely a clue.

I hope rolento, I always liked him. Alex would be cool but abel is alex like in terms of using grappling and with the exception of Vega (claw) there aren't many weapon based characters.

I'm going with New York on this one. The similarity of the building to the Empire State building is uncanny. Just because the statue is off wouldn't preclude it from being NYC IMO.

I mean, look at Boxer's stage from SF2. That's obviously Vegas. It even has a sign for Golden Nugget, a Vegas institution.

Guys, Metro City does have buildings and stuff that look like NYC. It has a building just like the Empire State building. I think it's even in the Rolento stage vid posted above (when the elevator reaches the top). However, does NYC hav a statue of Haggar?

also, does the repeat of "HUGE" in the blog post several times, could it be a clue? Is there a larger character left? dunno.

@Valkyrie Yeah I though that too. But I thought the stage needed some relevance to the character. But I think Adon is in for sure. The strokes are similar to Sagat's for his focus attack.
