001. BLANKA - INTRO & STRATEGY - STREET FIGHTER II TURBO HD REMIX

Blanka is a character that can be used very effectively from a distance with his Rolling Attack being able to punish the mistakes of his opponents. He is also able to punish those who do not jump wisely with his vertical Rolling Attack.

Once someone approaches him, his electricity is a great tool to keep the distance. Once in close be sure to utilize his bite throw or simple rolling attack combos to do your damage.

003. BLANKA - SPECIAL MOVES - STREET FIGHTER II TURBO HD REMIX

ROLLING ATTACKCHARGE BACK, FOWARD + PUNCH

  • The Beast Roll (Rolling Attack) is one of Blanka's most important attacks. It is fairly fast, but be careful. If an opponent has good reactions and/or is expecting it, it can be completely countered by other moves.  Jabs can counter Rolling Attack. It takes more timing with characters with slow jabs, but it's a more difficult move to land if the other character has fast jabs like Balrog or Dee Jay.
  • The Beast Roll has been improved in HD Remix in several ways.  The jab and strong versions of the Beast Roll now travel a shorter distance. In addition, all three versions of the Beast Roll now rotate at the same speed and have the same sound.  This makes it impossible for the opponent to tell by sight or sound which version of the Beast Roll is being used.  Both of these enhancements vastly improve the tactic of purposely whiffing the Beast Attack into Bite or other attacks.

VERTICAL ROLLING ATTACK

CHARGE DOWN, UP + KICK

  • This is one of the only moves in the game which can hit on the very first frame.  This makes the Vertical Rolling Attack an incredibly effective anti-air move.
  • The Vertical Rolling Attack can hit on the first frame, but it can also be hit on the first frame. This means that it often trades in those instances.  The damage is usually in Blanka's favor, though, and knocks the opponent down.

ELECTRIC THUNDERTAP PUNCH REPEATEDLY

004. BLANKA - COMBOS - STREET FIGHTER II TURBO HD REMIX

BLANKA COMBOS

j. MK, cr. MK, HP Rolling Attack (good, easy bread and butter combo)

cr.MK, cr.MK, HP Rolling Attack (good, easy bread and butter combo)

BLANKA DIRTY TRICKS AND SHENANIGANS

HOP AROUND TACTICS

  • Vertical Rolling Attack out of Hop: You can maintain a down charge as you use Blanka's forward or backward hop by holding down-back as you hop back or down-forward to hop forward. By doing this, you can do a Vertical Rolling Attack the moment you come out of the hop.
    • Using this method is a good way of chasing down opponents who like to jump around all over the place. It can also be used to take an opponent by surprise as the Vertical Rolling Attack is active on first frame (see above in the Special Moves section of this guide for more info).
    • You can also use this as a cross-up. Maintain your downward charge by holding down-forward as you hop across an opponent on the ground. Try to time it so that you come out of your hop a moment before the opponent is on their feet and execute the Vertical Rolling Attack to hit him in the face.
  • BITE HIS FACE!!!: Blanka's bite is sick in this game. It does disgusting damage potential and has very good range. What's even better is that Blanka has lots of tools available to get into the position to bite.
    • Whiff Horizontal Beast Roll into Bite: You purposely time your Beast Roll so that you will stop right in front of the opponent. Ideally, your opponent is expecting to be hit and will be blocking as you come out of the Beast Roll. Right as you come out of the Beast Roll animation land the Bite throw before the opponent can react. You will have to practice so that you know instinctively how far each of your 3 Beast Rolls will travel so you can judge that distance precicely. You don't want to land too short (allows opponent to react) or go too far (will hit opponent). The good news is that in HD Remix all three strengths of Beast Roll sound and look exactly the same.
    • Hop into Bite: After you land a close cr.mk you can usually hop forward. The opponent may not be expecting this or still be in block-stun and you can go for the bite.
